NW Natural Gas Storage, LLC – Total Compensation Package Summary

Effective 1-1-12

You are eligible for benefits if you are a non-contractual regular status employee of NW Natural Gas Storage, LLC regularly scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week. Benefits become effective the first of the month following your hire date, or the date you transfer into an eligible status, unless otherwise stated.

Compensation

BASE SALARY: You are compensated within a compensation range/grade based on your position. Market data is used to determine salary ranges/grades. Individual placement within the range/grade is based on external competitiveness and internal equity. In March of each year, the company will evaluate performance and consider merit increases.
ANNUAL INCENTIVE PLAN: Award is paid in a lump sum in March of the year following the calendar year in which incentive is earned. You will be eligible to receive an award if you are an active employee through the payout date of the award and other plan terms for eligibility are satisfied. If eligible, participation in this incentive program would be pro-rated based on your date of hire. This award is based upon a combination of company and individual performance.
OVER-TIME PAY: If you are a non-exempt employee, you will be paid for overtime in accordance with California state law. Overtime is calculated based on hours worked. Other paid time, such as vacation and holiday pay, is not included.
ON CALL PAY: (Non-Exempt ONLY) If you are a non-exempt employee and you are required to carry a cell phone or pager and to be ready and able to report to work if needed, you will be compensated 2 hours per day at your regular rate of pay for on-call pay. If you are required to report to work, you will be compensated a minimum of 4 hours for that day. If you work more than 4 hours, you will be compensated for your actual hours worked.

Health Plans You have a choice between two comprehensive medical plans, both including vision and prescription drug coverage: Kaiser Permanente (where available); and LifeWise Health Plan of Oregon
Dental Plans You have a choice between three comprehensive dental plans, all include preventative, basic and major coverage: Kaiser Permanente (where available); ODS Core Dental Plan; ODS Premium Dental Plan
Opt Out Incentives Should you choose to opt out of medical and/or dental coverage, and you can show evidence of other insurance coverage, you will be eligible for the following opt out incentives:
Health Plan: $275 per month
Dental Coverage: $25 per month

Company Provided Benefits

Employee Life & AD&D Insurance The company provides life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment at 1.25 times your annual salary. This coverage is insured through Standard Insurance Company.
Child Life Benefit The company provides life insurance coverage in the amount of $5,000 on the lives of all eligible children.
Short Term Disability (STD) Short-term disability provides income protection in the event you are unable to work due to illness or injury. The plan has a 3 workday waiting period and then pays 66.67% of your regular salary for the duration of your disability, up to a 180-day maximum. This benefit is effective the first of the month following 90 days of employment. California employees eligible for State Disability Insurance would have their STD offset by SDI benefits.
Long Term Disability (LTD) Long-term disability provides income protection after being disabled for 180 days. The company provides coverage at 60% of your monthly salary as a core benefit. For additional protection, you may elect the “buy up” option which covers you at 66.67% of your regular earnings. This additional protection (6.67%) is employee paid and deducted from your paycheck as authorized on an after-tax basis. This benefit is effective on the first of the month following 90 days of employment.

Optional Coverage

Additional Life Insurance Additional Employee and Spouse/Domestic Partner life insurance is available. Employees may purchase individual or spouse/partner coverage in increments of $10,000. Additional Employee life is available up to $500,000 and spouse/partner life is available up to $250,000. The cost of this coverage is based on the age of the applicant. This insurance is through Standard Insurance Company.
Optional AD&D Insurance Employee accidental death and dismemberment insurance is available for purchase from $10,000 to $500,000, in increments of $10,000, at a rate of .03 cents per $1,000.
Flexible Spending (Health Care) Opportunity to set aside pre-tax funds to help pay for eligible out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses for you and your family.
Flexible Spending (Day Care) Opportunity to set aside pre-tax funds to help pay for day care for children under age 13 or care for disabled parents.
Long Term Care Optional insurance is available for you and your spouse, as well as your parents, for care received in your home or a rest-home/nursing home when you need assistance with daily living activities. This insurance is offered through UNUM.

Paid Time Off

Vacation Time The accrual for this benefit begins on your date of hire and is based on years of relevant industry experience as follows:

  • Date of hire to completion of 5 years equals 120 hours per year
  • 6 years to completion of 13 years equals 160 hours per year
  • 14 years to completion of 22 years equals 200 hours per year
  • 23 years and more equals 240 hours per year
Sick Time Employees may use this time for their own illnesses, to care for an ill family member or to attend their child’s school event, however it is not available for other personal purposes. Family members include those defined as a family member in the Company’s Family and Medical Leave policy. Sick days do not carry over from year to year and are not payable at termination. Days are pro-rated based on hire date.Hire date:  January 1 through April 30, sick pay time equals 24 hours
Hire date:  May 1 through September 30, sick pay time equals 16 hours
Hire date:  October 1 through November 30, sick pay time equals 8 hours
Hire date:  December 1 through December 31, sick pay time equals 0 hours

24 hours per calendar year for full time employees and pro-rated for part time employees. Sick time begins on your date of hire.

Holiday Pay There are a total of 11 paid holidays, 8 are scheduled and 3 are floating. An employee is eligible for holiday pay on their date of hire.

Retirement and Saving Plans

401(k) Deferrals and Matching Contributions You are eligible to participate in the Retirement K Savings Plan, a 401(k) plan effective on your date of hire. The Company match is 60% of the employee’s first 6% of contributions, up to a maximum of 3.6% of pay. Employees have 100% immediate vesting in the company match. The NW Natural stock fund and 22 mutual funds are available. The maximum employee contribution is 50% of earnings up to the federal maximum dollar amount, which changes annually.
Enhanced 401(k) Company Contributions Beginning on the first day of the month after you start performing services for NW Natural Gas Storage, LLC the company will contribute 5% of your compensation to your Enhanced 401(k) account. You will be 100% vested in this company contribution after 3 years of service with the company. Partial vesting is not allowed on this plan.

Additional Benefits and Services Available

Tuition Reimbursement Employees are eligible to receive 100% reimbursement for tuition only on courses related to career path within the Storage business.  The annual maximum benefit for full-time employees and part-time employees working more than 20 hours per week is $5,250 per calendar year.  The annual maximum for part-time employees working less than 20 hours per week is $2,625 per calendar year.
Public Mass Transit Benefits The company will provide you with free monthly public transit tickets if you choose to utilize public mass transit and it is available at your work location.
Employee Assistance Program Several employee assistance programs are available including; employee assistance counseling services, elder care information and referral, parenting and child information and referral, and career planning assistance. These programs are for you and your immediate family.
